Description
Laburnum, an ornamental tree, can be successfully transplanted even when quite large.
This plant thrives in well-drained, light (sandy) to medium (loamy) soil but can also tolerate heavy clay and nutritionally poor soils. It grows well in acidic, neutral, or alkaline soils and can thrive in semi-shade (light woodland) or full sun.
Laburnum withstands strong winds but does not tolerate maritime exposure, though it can handle atmospheric pollution. However, it is notably vulnerable to honey fungus.
The plant has a symbiotic relationship with certain soil bacteria that form nodules on its roots and fix atmospheric nitrogen. This nitrogen benefits the Laburnum and can also support the growth of nearby plants.
