The grey green to deep green pinnate leaves are made up of many small leaflets with toothed margins, these form a low dense mat with a soft dense appearance.
In summer insignificant cream flowers are produced on spherical heads on top of upright stalks.
From these heads develop brightly coloured deep pink burrs, they are quite spectacular and one of the reasons for growing this particular species.
Soil: Well drained soil. Will tolerate poor quality soils.
Can spread quite rapidly. Stems touching the ground will grow roots, remove rooted stems to maintain size.
Edible: Leaves can be infused to make a tea.
